After Your Treatment
Following your filler or anti-wrinkle treatment, a few simple steps will help minimise swelling and bruising. Wrap some ice in a clean cloth and gently place it on the treated area for around 10 minutes, repeating every 30 minutes for the first 4 hours. Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and for the first two nights sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated using an extra pillow.
What To Avoid
For the first 24 hours avoid heavy exercise, hot tubs, saunas, swimming, alcohol, caffeine, skincare products, makeup, and hot showers — lukewarm water only. Do not touch or massage the treated area unless your practitioner advises otherwise, and avoid bending forward or lying flat for the first 4 hours. For 72 hours avoid tanning beds, heat lamps, and blood-thinning supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil, or ginseng. Wait at least 2 weeks before having facials, eyebrow threading, microneedling, laser, or IPL treatments.
When To Seek Medical Advice
Fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments are generally very safe and serious complications are rare. However, contact your practitioner if you notice increased swelling, redness, or pain after 24 hours. Seek urgent medical attention if you experience difficulty breathing or swallowing, vision changes, severe pain, blue or purple skin around the treated area, or skin turning very pale in the treated area.
